Životopis

Dario Vretenar rođen je 29. listopada 1958. u Puli. Na Prirodoslovno-matematičkom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu diplomirao je fiziku 1982. godine, magistrirao 1985. te doktorirao 1988. radom iz teorijske nuklearne fizike. Poslijedoktorsko usavršavanje provodi na Sveučilištu u Bologni i Sveučilištu Yale (1989.-1991.) te kao stipendist Alexander von Humboldt zaklade na Tehničkom Sveučilištu u Münchenu (1991.-1993.). Od 1982. godine zaposlen je u Zavodu za teorijsku fiziku Fizičkog odsjeka, Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. 1993. godine izabran je za docenta, a izvanredni profesor postaje 1997. Za redovitog profesora izabran je 2001., a za redovitog profesora u trajnom zvanju 2006. godine. Bio je gostujući profesor na Sveučilištu u Bologni, na Tehničkom Sveučilištu u Münchenu, Sveučilištu Tokio i Sveučilištu Peking. Kao gostujući znanstvenik radio je na sveučilištima u Bologni, Chongqingu, Jyvaskyli, Münchenu, Pekingu, Solunu, Tokiju, te u nacionalnim laboratorijima GSI-Darmstadt (Njemačka), Legnaro (Italija), IPN-Orsay (Francuska) i Oak Ridge (SAD).

Područje znanstveno-istraživačkog rada D. Vretenara je teorijska nuklearna fizika: teorija funkcionala gustoće i njezine primjene u opisu strukture egzotičnih atomskih jezgri daleko od stabilnosti, nuklearna efektivna teorija polja, nuklearna astrofizika, algebarski modeli strukture atomske jezgre i fizika visokih angularnih momenata. Objavio je više od 270 znanstvenih radova u časopisima uvrštenim u Web of Science (WoS) bazu, citiranih više od 12.000 puta s h-indeksom 58. Organizirao je niz međunarodnih konferencija, znanstvenih radionica i poslijediplomskih škola u Hrvatskoj i inozemstvu, te uredio šest zbornika međunarodnih znanstvenih skupova, među kojima se izdvajaju: “The nuclear many-body problem”, W. Predaje kolegije Uvod u kvantnu fiziku i Kvantna fizika na preddiplomskom studiju fizike, te kolegij Teorija strukture atomske jezgre na doktorskom studiju Fizike Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Od 2019. godine gostujući je profesor na Sveučilištu Peking.

Od 2004. do 2008. bio je predsjednik Upravnog vijeća Instituta za fiziku u Zagrebu i član Područnog znanstvenog vijeća za prirodne znanosti. Od 2009. do 2017. bio je predsjednik Matičnog odbora za polje fizike.

U razdoblju od 2005. do 2011. bio je u dva mandata član Programskog savjeta Nacionalnog laboratorija: „Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare – Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro“, Italija, a od 2013. do 2017. član Programskog savjeta „Accelerator Laboratory“, University of Jyväskylä , Finska. Od 2017. do 2020. član je programskog savjeta “ISOLDE and Neutron Time-of-Flight Experiments Committee”, CERN. Divisional Associate Editor časopisa Physical Review Letters od 2020. Član uredništva časopisa The European Physical Journal A: Hadrons and Nuclei.

Od 2013. do 2020. bio je predsjednik Upravnog odbora Hrvatske zaklade za znanost.

Godine 2002. dobio je godišnju nagradu Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti za područje Prirodnih znanosti i Matematike. Državnu nagradu za znanost iz područja Prirodnih znanosti dobio je 2003. godine.

Za redovitog člana Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti izabran je 2012. godine, te za člana Europske akademije (Academia Europaea) 2016. godine. Za glavnog tajnika Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti izabran je 2019.
