The Institute for Scientific Research and Artistic Work of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Vukovar was established in 2008. It is located at the restored birthplace of Lavoslav Ružička, the first Croatian Nobel laureate.

The Institute’s task is to promote scientific research work and artistic creativity in the city of Vukovar and its wider surroundings via its activities, pursuant to the Statute and the operational plan of the Croatian Academy. The Institute engages in conducting scientific and professional research in the areas of humanities, social and natural sciences, as well as nurturing artistic creativity for the needs of economic rebuilding and progress, and social and cultural development of the city of Vukovar and its County; local and foreign scientific and professional subcontractors collaborate in the activities by launching and developing projects, organizing artistic manifestations and scientific symposia and conferences of importance for the development of scientific research and the application and publication of its results.
