The Institute was founded by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the programs of the Institute are financed and assisted by the County of Primorje – Gorski Kotar, the City of Rijeka and the University of Rijeka.

The Presidency of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, at its 7th (270th) regular session appointed Daniel Rukavina, F.C.A. head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences in Rijeka, in the new term of 4 years, starting September 30, 2021.

With excellent cooperation with the University of Rijeka, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka, as well as with the local community, Institute has created an atmosphere in which, although with numerous difficulties, solutions can be found for constant improvement of work even in these circumstances.

Presidency of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts at the session of February 24, 2014 passed the Decision on the establishment of the Council of the Institute in the following composition:

  • prof. Anđelka Radojčić Badovinac, Ph.D., University of Rijeka;
  • prof. Herman Haller-member, Ph.D., City of Rijeka;
  • prof. Đulija Malatestinić-member, Ph.D., Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

The Institute is conceived as a “virtual” center – a center for gathering top scientific and professional potential, with the aim of reflecting and designing the development of the Rijeka medical community.
