The Croatian Academy has a highly developed international cooperation on several levels – bilateral cooperation with other academies and multilateral cooperation related to the participation and engagement of HAZU representatives in numerous international scientific organizations.
The Balokovic Scholarship is awarded each year to students from Croatia who have been admitted for graduate study to Harvard University. Interested students must apply for consideration before entering the U.S. and prior to the start of their Harvard programs. Applications must be submitted to the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb, which nominates a limited number of finalists each year to the Committee on General Scholarships. This scholarship is not ordinarily renewable.

the opportunity to apply for a scholarship, in accordance with the decision of the founders of the Zlatko and Joyce Baloković Scholarship Fund, for students from the Republic of Croatia in the academic year 2026/2027, at any school or department of Harvard University.
After the nomination by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the competent authority of Harvard University confirms the candidates, allows enrollment and determines the amount of the scholarship.
The enrolment procedure at Harvard University is carried out independently by the candidate.
Interested candidates are invited to submit an application to the Administration of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The application must include the following documents in Croatian and in English:
If the candidate is already enrolled at Harvard University (and is applying for a scholarship for the second year of study), proof of completion of the first year of study must be enclosed. Candidates who are already enrolled at Harvard University but have deferred the start of their studies for one year may also apply for the scholarship.
Candidates must be enrolled in a regular (full-time) study program; part-time, online, or summer programs are not eligible for this scholarship.
