Curriculum Vitae

Marko Turina, a Croatian doctor, one of the world’s leading cardiovascular surgeons, was born on January 23, 1937 in Zagreb, where he graduated from elementary and secondary school and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1961. After that, he specialized in general and cardiovascular surgery in Zurich and San Diego, and since 1962 he has been active in the University Hospital of Zurich, where since 1976 he has been head of the institute of experimental surgery, and since 1985 the head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. From 1996 to 1998 he was dean of the Zurich School of Medicine. He was engaged in heart transplants and artificial heart improvement and in 1977 was the first in the world to implant an artificial heart outside the chest, and was the first surgeon to have surgery on a heart deformity in a newborn. He was a full professor of the Faculty of Medicine in Zurich and the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek.

In 1992 he was elected as a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
