Curriculum Vitae

Mirko Primc, a Croatian mathematician, and physicist was born in Zagreb on May 30, 1948. Graduated in Theoretical Physics (1971) and received his Doctorate in Mathematics (1978) from the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, where he worked from 1971 to 1975. He is a full professor in permanent employment at the Mathematical Department of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, was dean of the Mathematical Department (1989–91), and professor emeritus has been since 2019. He was a visiting member, i.e. visiting professor in the world’s leading mathematical centers, at the Institute for Advanced Research in Princeton (1980–81), at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley (1983–84) and at the University of Lund (University of Lund) (1991–92).

Mirko Primc is one of the leading experts in the world for applications of the theory of representations of Lie algebras in combinatorics. His findings give theoretical explanations and a systematic way of obtaining new combinatorial identities, as first studied by the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. These extremely complex mathematical discoveries are also important from the point of view of theoretical physics. Professor Primc’s results have been published in very extensive papers that have been published in some of the most respected mathematical journals and series. In our community, he formed a school based on Lie algebras and their applications in combinatorics and theoretical physics. In undergraduate and postgraduate studies he taught a series of courses in applied mathematical methods, theory of representations, etc. He was the editor (1990–92) and editor-in-chief of the journal Glasnik matematički (1993–94). He is the winner of the Ruđer Bošković Award and the CASA Award. He performed a number of important functions.

In 2023 professor Mirko Primc, PhD, was elected as the representative of associate members in the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences and participates in the work of the CASA Assembly without the right to vote.
