Dražen Matičić was born in Zagreb in 1965. He is a full professor in permanent employment at the Clinic for Surgery, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. He has been a member of the CASA since 2014. He started his scientific work after employment at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1991, as a young researcher on the project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia. From 2005 to 2012 he was head of the Department of Surgery, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology, in 2007-2010 he was vice-dean for quality management and lifelong education of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and in 2009-2013 he was a member of the Senate of the University of Zagreb. From 2008 to 2013, he proposed and realized the development project Center of Excellence of Veterinary Surgery at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Zagreb, which provided equipment and space for translational research in the field of biomedicine for the Republic of Croatia, and technologically modern conditions of clinical teaching for the students. At the time of his duties as a dean, he established a collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Georgia (College of Veterinary Medicine), the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, USA, and facilitated the exchange of experts and scientists that is still active today. He was chairman of the organizing committee of several international meetings. He currently serves as head of international postgraduate specialist studies in the fields of surgery, anesthesiology, ophthalmology and veterinary dentistry and head of the Center for Experimental Surgery. He is vice-president of the Parent Committee for the field of biomedicine and health – the field of veterinary medicine. He is a scientist and head of the veterinary part of EU projects from Horizon 2020, BIO-CHIP-Bioengineered grafts for Cartilage Healing in Patients and OSTEOproSPINE – Novel Bone Regeneration comrade Osteogrow. Drazen Matičić’s scientific papers have been published in some of the world’s leading scientific journals and have been cited more than 305 times in WoS and 500 times in the Google Scholar database. As co-author and editor, he published six textbooks, including the first Croatian textbook of veterinary surgery and anesthesiology. He was elected associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2014, and as a full member in 2018. In the same year, he was elected as a full member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences.
