Biography

Frano Kršinić, a Croatian biologist was born in Lumbarda on the island of Korcula on August 231947. He graduated in biology in 1972 from the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, where he received his Doctorate in 1977. From 1972 to retirement in 2013 he has been working at the Biological Institute in Dubrovnik (now the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Split), in the laboratory for plankton ecology. he is scientific advisor of the Institute since 1989, and full professor at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb since 1997. Explores planktonic communities in the Adriatic; primarily deals with the ecology and taxonomy of microzooplankton. From 2008 to 2011 he was the head of the CASA Arboretum in TrstenoFull member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences since 2000. Winner of the National Science Prize in 2008.
