Biography

Branko Despot, Croatian philosopher, born in Zagreb on July 6, 1942. He graduated in philosophy and Greek in 1965 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, where he received his Doctorate in 1975. He has worked at the Institute of Philosophy since 1968, and at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb since 1971 (full professor since 1984, professor emeritus since 2014). He explores the history of philosophy, Greek philosophy, German classical and contemporary philosophy, Croatian contemporary thought. Despot’s philosophy is co-referential, an interpretive conversation with surrender, a search for a path to an experience of freedom, pure opinion and will. Full member of the Croatian academy of sciences and arts since 2010.
