Biography

  • Hana Breko Kustura joined the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1996. She works as senior research fellow at Department for the History of Croatian Music
  • She holds degrees in musicology from the University in Zagreb (B. A. in 1993, M.A. in 1998, Ph.D. in 2002.)
  • In 1994/1995 she was given a one year DAAD scholarship for the postgraduate study at the Institute for musicology, “Friedrich- Alexander” University in Erlangen- Nuernberg
  • For the purpose of investigation of the oldest medieval sources for music of the Zagreb bishopric, and for the non Beneventan chant manuscripts from Dalmatia she was given an individual Research Support Scheme grant twice: in 1996 and in 1999 campaign
  • In May-June 1999 she won a Swedish Institute (Svenska Institutet) grant for the study trip to Institute Corpus troporum, Department for French and Italian, University of Stockholm
  • In 2003 and 2008 she was given a grant by Foundation HAZU (Zaklada HAZU) for her ongoing reseach of the liturgical polyphony from Croatia
  • Up to date she has published articles in Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia and in the United States
  • She was a guest lecturer at the Institute for musicology (University of Ljubljana), Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb, Department for Music, Washburn University, Topeka; Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri, Kansas City; Joliet College in Chicago
  • Since 1997 she attends the National conventions of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, AAASS (Seattle, St. Louis, Denver)
  • She received her Ph.D. in 2002, at the University of Zagreb with a thesis Das Missale aus Pula, 11. Jh., Ein Auftragswerk des Skriptoriums Tegernsee für St. Thomas Basilika in Pula: Das s. g. “Liber sequentiarum et sacramentarium” von Šibenik (under supervision by Prof. Dr. Andreas Haug, Julius-Maximilians-Universität in Würzburg, and Prof. Dr. Koraljka Kos, University of Zagreb).
  • She was given an award by the Croatian Music Institute (Nagrada HGZ-a) in 1993, and an award by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Nagrada HAZU) in 2003 for the book Misal MR 70 zagrebačke Metropolitanske knjižnice, Kontekst nastanka i primjene srednjovjekovnoga glazbenoga rukopisa, HMD, Serija Muzikološke studije, br. 7, Zagreb, 2003.
