Mira Menac-Mihalić was born September 9, 1954, in Zagreb. She graduated in Yugoslav languages and literature and Russian language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb and received her Doctorate in 1986 on Čakavska morfologija i morfološka akcenatska tipologija. She has been working at the same faculty at the Department of Dialectology and History of the Croatian Language since 1980 as an assistant, since 1990 as an assistant professor, since 2006 as an associate, since 2010 as a full professor. She teaches courses in the history of language and dialectology. She was head of the Department of Dialectology and History of the Croatian Language from 1999 to 2008, and the head of the Department of Croatistics from 2008 to 2010.
She has produced a series of phonetic and lexical maps and commentary for many points of Slavic languages, and since 2008 she has been editor-in-chief of the Hrvatski dijalektološki zbornik. She has published dozens of scientific papers, mostly phraseological and dialectological themes, and an independent book Frazeologija novoštokavskih ikavskih govora u Hrvatskoj: s rječnikom frazema i značenjskim kazalom s popisom sinonimnih frazema (2005). In co-authoring she published books Frazeologija križevačko-podravskih kajkavskih govora s rječnicima (2008, with Jela Maresić), Frazeologija splitskoga govora s rječnicima (2011, with Antica Menac), Ozvučena čitanka iz hrvatske dijalektologije (2012, with Anita Celinić), Frazemi i poslovice u dalmatinsko-venecijanskom govoru Splita u 20. stoljeću (2014, with A. Menac).
