Curriculum Vitae

Ivo Baća, Croatian surgeon, hepatologist, gastroenterologist and bariatric surgeon, was born in Trpanj on August 30, 1947. He attended elementary school in Trpanj and Dubrovnik, and gymnasium in Korčula. He graduated in medicine in Rijeka from the Faculty of Medicine in 1973. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Heidelberg and received his Doctorate in 1977.

He was head of the Clinical Department of the Center for General and Emergency Surgery at the Bremen Ost Clinic. At the University of Göttingen he has been a professor of surgery since 1990, and since 1995 he has been an associate professor at the University of Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek. He also worked at St. Markus Hospitals in Frankfurt am Main, the University clinic in Heidelberg and the hospital in Bremen.
He is one of Europe’s leading surgeons. He was the first president of the World Assembly of Croatian Doctors, founded in 1991. He has been in the editorial board of the Croatian Medical Journal since 1992 and on the advisory council of the journal Medizin im Bild. He published about 150 scientific articles, writing for Surgical endoscopy, Liječnički vjesnik and others. He has given over 250 scientific lectures around the world. He is an honorary member of the Croatian Medical Association. Since 1998 he is a correspondent member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
