Curriculum Vitae

Domagoj Delimar was born on 4 July 1968 in Zagreb. He is a Full Professor with tenure at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb and the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, and a Scientific Adviser with tenure in the scientific field of biomedicine and health. He is a specialist in orthopaedics and a subspecialist in musculoskeletal traumatology, and since 2014 he has held the title of primarius. His principal areas of clinical and scientific work comprise primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee, complex reconstructive procedures, and research into the pathogenesis and treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip.

He completed his medical studies in 1993 at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. During 1995 and 1996 he worked as a junior researcher on the project “Models in Medicine”. He defended his master’s thesis in 1998 and completed his residency in orthopaedics in 2000. He defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “The Anatomical Basis of an Original Method for Reconstruction of the Acetabular Roof” in 2002 under the mentorship of Professor Krešimir Koržinek, PhD, and acquired the title of subspecialist in the narrow specialty of musculoskeletal traumatology in 2015. In his academic career he advanced through the ranks of Assistant Professor (2006), Associate Professor (2011) and Full Professor (2015), and was elected Full Professor with tenure in 2021.

Since 2009 he has served as Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, and since 2013 he has been Chair of the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. From 1998 to 2015 he led the explantation team and the Bone Bank of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been President of the Croatian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (HUOT) since 2011, a full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Croatia since 2014, and a member of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT). Since 2026 he has been a Full Member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

He has undertaken professional training abroad. He was a fellow of the Austrian Ministry of Science in 1993 (Landes Krankenhaus, Graz) and of the Anica Bitenc Travelling Fellowship of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association in 1997. He received a fellowship from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) for a study visit to the United States in 2004, and in 2013, as part of the International Emerging Leaders programme, he was a visiting fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University.

He has been a leader and collaborator on several scientific projects, including the Croatian Science Foundation project “Characterization of Acetabular and Femoral Cartilage in Adult Patients with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip – HIPoCART” and the international FP7 project OSTEOGROW. He leads several courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including “Hip and Knee Endoprostheses” and “Hip and Knee Arthroplasty”. He has mentored 13 successfully defended doctoral dissertations and numerous graduate theses at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine.

He is the author of 46 papers in journals indexed in the Current Contents database, 17 papers in Science Citation Index Expanded publications, and numerous other scientific and professional papers, book chapters and conference contributions. His complete scientific output comprises more than 130 papers cited more than 900 times. He served as President of several HUOT congresses and of the 10th Central European Orthopaedic Congress (CEOC) held in Split in 2014, and has taken part as an invited lecturer at international congresses in Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and China. He is a reviewer for several international indexed journals, including International Orthopaedics, and a reviewer of university textbooks in orthopaedics.
