Curriculum Vitae
Josip Užarević was born in Gudinci on January 11, 1953. He completed his studies in Yugoslav studies in 1976 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, where he received his Doctorate in Composition of lyrical Poems in 1988; He is a full professor of Russian Literature at Zagreb University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of East-Slavic Languages and Literatures.
Since 2014, he is a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts at the Department of Literature.
Studying the poetry of O. E. Mandeljštam, B. L. Pasternak, N. A. Zabolockog and M. Cvetajeva, he contributed to the critical revaluation of the Russian avant-garde.
He also studied the reception of Russian literature in the Croatian cultural environment, problematised different aspects of translation of poetic text and dealt with Croatian poetry of the XX century.
His main spheres of interest are: Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries (especially poetry), Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School, Croatian literature and literary scholarship, philosophical aspects of language and literature, Croatian dialectology.
