Tomislav Galović was born in 1979 in Nova Gradiška. He completed elementary school in Bogovići on the island of Krk and later attended the Pazin College – Classical Gymnasium in Pazin. At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, he earned degrees in History, Archival Science, Latin Language, and Roman Literature. At the same University, he obtained his Ph.D. with a dissertation titled “Libellus Policorion – The Rogovo Cartulary (A Diplomatic-Historical Analysis).” He is currently a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Auxiliary Sciences and Methodology of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. He also served as Acting Vice Dean for Organization and Development of the same Faculty. Dr. Galović is an external collaborator of the Catholic Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Croatian Studies, both at the University of Zagreb, and a member of the Scientific Centre of Excellence for Croatian Glagolitism at the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb. He is also a contributor to the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography in Zagreb.

Dr. Galović is the current President of the Croatian National Committee of Historical Sciences (a member of the Comité International des Sciences Historiques – CISH / International Committee of Historical Sciences – ICHS), the umbrella professional organization of Croatian historians. He is a member of the Governing Council of the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb, a member of the Main Committee of Matica hrvatska (Matrix Croatica), and Head of its Department of History. His research focuses on Croatian medieval and early modern history (political, ecclesiastical, and cultural) and the auxiliary sciences of history (palaeography, diplomatics, chronology, ecdotics/textual criticism, and heraldry), and in particular, the Croatian Glagolitism and history of the island of Krk. He is the author or co-author of about ten books and around two hundred scholarly and professional papers, as well as editor of several proceedings and organizer of academic conferences. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Hrvatska revija. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the scholarly journal Krčki zbornik (published by the Krk Historical Society) and is also a member of the editorial board of Fontes. He is the history section editor on the Publishing Council of FF-press, the publishing division of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb (since 2018). He is a member of the Association for Croatian Studies – ACS (Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) and Association for Slavic, East European, & Eurasian Studies – ASEEES (University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA). Dr. Galović is the recipient of the 2004 State Award for Science.
