Slavko Mati\u0107<\/strong>, F.C.A., Prof. Emeritus, Doctor of Honoris Causa, was born on January 20, 1938 in <\/span>Livno<\/span>. He finished his public school and gymnasium in the family homeland of\u00a0<\/span>Knin<\/span>. He graduated from the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb in 1962. He worked at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb from 1963 to 2003, when he retired. He received his master’s degree from the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb in 1972, defending the topic “Natural rejuvenation as a factor of the structure of the stand in the forests of fir with ribbed (<\/span>Blechno-Abietetum<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Horv<\/span>.)”. He received his Doctorate in 1980 from the same Faculty, defending his dissertation “The influence of ecological and structural factors on the natural rejuvenation of preborn forests of fir and beech in Gorski Kotar” He was elected full professor in 1986. In 1991, he was re-elected to the same title, and in 1997 he acquired the permanent title of full professor. He was elected professor emeritus of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb, in 2004. In 2000, he was awarded the honorary title of Doctor honoris causa at Mendel’s\u00a0<\/span>agri<\/span>-forestry University of Brno.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>He was awarded the equivalent title in 2003 at the Technical University of\u00a0<\/span>Zvolen<\/span>, Slovakia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n He has been a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2004. He<\/span>\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0president of the Scientific Council for Agriculture and Forestry of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts from 23 February 2011 to 20 February 2015 and head of the Academy’s Centre for Scientific Work in\u00a0<\/span>Vinkovci<\/span>\u00a0from 27 October 2004<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n He was one of the founders, members and the first president of the Academy of Forest Sciences. He was dean of the Faculty of Forestry (1992., 1994. \u2013 1996.) and vice dean (1982. \u2013 1984., 1984. \u2013 1986., 1990. \u2013 1992.). <\/span><\/span>He<\/span>\u00a0was head of the Department of Forest Breeding at the Faculty of Forestry (1997-2003) and chairman of the Forest Committee of the Faculty of Forestry (1986-2003).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
