He then enrolled at the Faculty of Engineering in Zagreb and graduated in 1946. After graduation, he got a job at the Rade Končar factory where he was first in charge of materials in telephony, and then in the test station where he began to deal with measuring procedures for testing motors, transformers, and other devices, which determined his scientific and professional activity for life.

After the establishment of the Electrical Engineering Institute Rade Končar took over the position of director of the Department of Measurement Technology, where after graduating to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Zagreb, he became an advisor. At the Institute, he developed a prototype instrument transformer with an open core, which is still produced today. In addition, he developed test stations for large high-power and high-voltage switchgear.

From 1957 to 1961 he worked as a part-time professor for the subject measurements in electrical engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Zagreb. In 1961, he was elected associate professor. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1965 and in early 1968 he was elected full professor.

In 1975 he was elected associate member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, in 1986 as an associate and in 1991 as a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

To improve scientific and professional work, he founded a metrology laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art measuring devices and measuring standards at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. A good deal of equipment was made under his guidance. The results of many years of development have enabled the metrology independence of Croatia. Also, a good part of the developed equipment entered the production program of the domestic industry.

Special progress in the field of electrical measuring devices has been made in the period since 1975, when measuring devices of superior accuracy were made under his leadership. The ultimate range of his endeavour in top metrology is the manufacture of two voltage scales. In 1981, these devices were found to be volt incorrect by as much as 8 millionths of a millionth, which was confirmed and on January 1, 1990, a correction of the unit was made by 8.065 millionths of a millionth.

Professor Bego was a longtime president (from 1962 to 1972), and later honorary president of the professional association JUKEM. He was the founder and member of the Croatian Metrology Society since 1978.

For his work, Academician Vojislav Bego has received numerous awards. In 1964, he was awarded the Republic Nikola Tesla Award for distinguished scientific work. He received the Award of the City of Zagreb on two occasions: in 1975 for his scientific work in the field of electromagnetic metrology and in 1985 for the development of voltage scales. In 1996, he was elected to the honorary title of professor emeritus of the University of Zagreb, and the State Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to him in 1997.

[96
91
